Shawmut Design and Construction Completes Benihana in Chicago

Shawmut Design and Construction, a leading $1.3 billion national construction management firm announced the completion of a new Benihana restaurant inside the John Hancock Center in Chicago.

This is Shawmut’s first completed project in Chicago since the opening of its Chicago office earlier this month. This also marks the eighth restaurant Shawmut has built for Benihana and 10 years of partnering together.

The approximately 9,000 square-foot restaurant represents the Japanese-inspired Teppanyaki and Sushi restaurants’ return to Chicago. Shawmut executed on the vision of Benihana’s in-house design team, installing 22 Teppanyaki tables, a contemporary sushi bar, three private dining rooms, an inviting cocktail lounge and outdoor patio seating where guests can indulge in fresh sushi options and vibrant cocktails while enjoying the lively atmosphere of the Magnificent Mile.

“We were honored to play such an integral part in bringing Benihana back to Chicago,” said Randy Shelly, vice president at Shawmut. “It was meaningful for us to achieve this milestone for Benihana as we celebrate a decade of working together, and continue to contribute to Chicago’s bustling restaurant landscape.”

Shawmut is known for their expertise building in fully operational, urban environments and took special care to ensure John Hancock Center guests and employees experienced minimal disruptions during construction.

Benihana is the most recently completed project by Shawmut’s hospitality division in Chicago

Benihana Inc. is the nation’s leading operator of Japanese-inspired Teppanyaki and Sushi restaurants with more than 100 nationwide Benihana, Haru Sushi, RA Sushi and Samurai restaurants. Additionally, 10 franchised Benihana restaurants are operating throughout the United States, Caribbean, and Central and South America.
