Green light for $437m Florida airport expansion

The budgets have been authorised for two linked projects at Florida’s Tampa Airport.

Hillsborough County Aviation Authority authorised a US$437m (£287m) contract to construct the two schemes – a new rental car centre and an automated people mover.

Passengers will leave baggage claim and take a three-story escalator to the new people mover station. From there, passengers will hop onto the people mover, travelling south to the economy car park, a roughly 2km trip that will take a little over three minutes.

After a brief stop, the train will continue to the new rental car centre, where passengers exit the people mover right in in front of rental car customer service counters. Including walking time, it will take just over 10 minutes to get from baggage claim to the rental car centre.
